Ongoing Programmes and Activites
Dr.Bimbadhar Pujari Youth Learning Centre :
The project has been funded by Lt. Col. Mahesh Prasad Pujari (Retd.) with Rs.8.00 Lakhs (Rupees Eight Lakhs) for infrastructure development in the library and various programmes for youth. Five Computers has been purchased with this amount besides a large number of books & other furniture which are being used for computer education including internet facilities by the youth. 858 youth mostly girls have completed basic computer course. Besides, seminars have been organized for the benefit of the youth in different schools in Sambalpur. The library is grateful to Lt. Col. Pujari for the project.
ST JOSEPHS H.S. SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION:
The Alumni Association donated five computers to the library for use by students. The members of the library along with the members of the association were present during the donation ceremony. It is a great help to the library in providing computer education to the children and youth. The library thanks the members of the association.
ODISHA STATE OPEN UNIVERSITY :
The newly established Odisha State Open University has opened a study centre in the Library to provide different Computer Education Courses. At-present Diploma in Computer Application, Diploma in Cyber Security, P.G. Diploma in Science Security, E-Commerce and Certificate in Communication Skills courses are offered by the University and regular classes are held on Sunday’s and Holidays.
RAJA RAM MOHAN RAY LIBRARY FOUNDATION:
The above foundation has sanctioned a sum of Rs.150,000.00 (one lakh fifty thousand) for purchase of books and furniture for career guidance, senior citizens, and women. During the year six hundred books, three Almirahs and three racks have been purchased under this programme. Rs.112500/- received during last year has been utilized.
BAHI MORA SATHI :
During the year, Bahi Mora Sathi, a reading campaign for school children was launched by the library under the patronage Shri D.V. Swamy, IAS, RDC, ND, Sambalpur. 1668 students of 107 schools participated in the programme. The reading campaign was very much successful as later on it became a state programme. A sum of Rs.150,000/- was provided by the MCL for the programme.
A children’s corner has been opened in the library for the benefit of school children. A large number of books in English, Hindi and Odia suitable for children have been purchased and kept. The NCL India have donated five lakh to furnish the children’s corner. Shri R. Venkateswaarlu, PD, NHAI has donated English books and Odia books. Each Saturday evening, children gather and different programmes like storytelling, singing, painting are held. Books are issued to the children. We thank the donors.
MEETING & SEMINARS:
18 monthly lectures on different topics as mention earlier were held during the year, A Workshop on Skill Development was held from 19.07.2017 to 21.07.2017. 47 Secondary teachers from different school participated.
Memorail lectures in honour of saint. Dr. Janardan Pujari, eminent son of the soil Shri Chandra Sekhar Behera and Freedom Fighter Bhagirathi Pattnaik are organized by the library.
The Birla Institute of Management Technology, New Delhi has donated a photocopier machine for the benefit of student members. State Bank of India donated one AG WATER COOLER MACHINE to provide cold water to the members visiting the library. We thank BIM TECH & State Bank of India authorities.
